We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Director, Materials Scientist to join our Mission Payloads & Exploitation group in Poway, CA.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Reports to the Director of System Engineering Integration & Test and conducts special assignments to develop and analyze advanced materials and processes.
+ Conduct literature searches to determine candidate materials targeted to specific goals such as high magnetic permeability
+ Responsible for managing deposition of magnetic thin film multilayers and measurement of material properties at DC and RF frequencies using magnetometer, permeameter, resonant strip line cavities, transmission tunnel, NRL-type arch, waveguides, etc.
+ Responsible for research, development, documentation of resonant strip cavity, transmission tunnel, NRL-type arch, waveguides, permanent magnets, and electromagnets
+ Responsible for research, development, documentation of processes, and scale-up of new materials to achieve project goals
+ Analyze and trade novel antenna and array concepts to identify solutions to specific engineering problems.
+ Instruct technicians, document processes, prepare technical reports, present customer briefings
+ Initiate the planning of scientific projects and develop innovative designs or modifications in order to meet project goals independently perform difficult/complex scientific work
+ Document findings, communicate results to scientific staff, make technical presentations
+ Provide direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff
+ Support operation of scientific systems and document any problems
+ Devise new approaches to resolve unusual or complex scientific problems
+ Troubleshoot conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements
+ May develop and/or perform computational modeling of scientific phenomena using commercial software such as MATLAB and HFSS.
+ May represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single component projects

Job Qualifications
+ Typically requires a Bachelors degree, Masters degree or PhD in a scientific or related technical field and progressively complex scientific experience as follows; eighteen or more years experience with a Bachelors degree, sixteen or more years experience with a Masters degree, and thirteen or more with a PhD. Equivalent comprehensive scientific experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
+ Must have demonstrated leadership ability directing/developing solutions to highly technical and complex scientific problems, and has been a key participant in attracting and retaining scientific business.
+ Must have direct applicable experience with thin-films, magnetic materials, RF theory & application, LO/CLO concepts & applications, and 1st principles of RF antenna operation.
+ Must have very strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to build strong networks and be influential across functional boundaries.
+ Must be willing to work flexible and extended hours as required.
+ Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time to support program needs.
+ US Citizenship is required.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance.
