Billing Coordinator - Hospice Of San Joaquin (California)

We are seeking a Dynamic, self-motivated Billing Coordinator who thrives in a fast paced environment and to support our mission. This is a Full-Time position reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
POSITION SUMMARY: Process all claims for Medicare and Medi-Cal. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Process and file needed paperwork for authorizations and eligibilities for patients on an ongoing basis.
2. Supports Intake on NOEs (Notice of Election); processes all discharge and change notifications (NOTRs) each month prior to billing.
3. Communicate with the Clinical Department to ensure insurances and CTIs are in order; follow up with Social Work Department on verifying insurance coverage’s.
4. Bill for physician services and Hospice House; manage collections and any pass through payments.
5. Maintain Medi‐Cal room and board billing and payment schedules.
6. Process remittance advices from Medicare, Medi‐Cal and Insurance payers; keep scanned copies of all remittance advices; follow up on any denials.
7. Post payments to Allscripts/Netsmart.
8. Research old claims, rejections and file appeals.
9. Reconcile and resolve difference between patient billing and patient payment.
10. Prepare ageing reports with status of claims for weekly / monthly meeting.
11. Prepare Medicare Credit Balance report quarterly and submit.
12. Stay current on Medicare and State regulations for Hospice services and billing.
13. Update billing rates and resource information for all payers in EMR.
14. Maintain and update Medicare and Medi‐Cal Provider and Billing manuals.
15. Manage petty cash fund and reconcile.
16. Scan daily check deposits.
17. Act as receptionist on a rotating basis.
Qualifications
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Medical Billing/Coding experience
2. Ability to work with Microsoft Word, QuickBooks and Excel
3. Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
4. Excellent communication skills and the ability to extrapolate goals from limited information
5. Strong accuracy and attention to detail
6. An appropriate sense of humor
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
1. Vehicle – Ability and willingness to drive own vehicle, have a valid California driver’s license and have automobile insurance, which meets State standards. All employee’s volunteers, consultants and consultant volunteers who drive need to provide Hospice of San Joaquin evidence of insurance. This is necessary to be covered on the agency’s nonowned auto policy.
2. Mobility – Frequent operation of a keyboard and sitting for long periods of time; occasional standing for long periods of time, walking, pushing/pulling,
bending/squatting, driving, climbing ladders or stairs and crawling.
3. Frequency of Lifting – Occasional lifting of 5 to 35 lbs.
4. Visual Requirements – Constant use of overall vision; frequent need for color perception, hand/eye coordination, reading/close-up work, and field of vision.
5. Hearing/Talking – Frequent hearing of normal speech, hearing the telephone, talking in person and on the telephone; occasional hearing of faint sounds.
6. Emotional/Physiological Factors – Frequent public contact, decision making, concentration and working alone; occasional exposure to emergency situations (including death), heights and hazardous materials.
7. Ability to participate in the evaluation(s) of own performance by identifying strengths and weaknesses and by developing a plan to improve areas of weakness.
8. Environmental Conditions – Occasional exposure to noise, dirt, dust, smoke, fumes, poor ventilation and cold and heat.
