HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Education Program Aide will perform all job assignments with a positive attitude that supports San Diego Zoo Global’s mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in animal care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction. The Education Program Aide provides Educator Guide level program support for Education programs throughout the year. This position reports to the Education Supervisors.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
+ Provides customer service to program participants
+ Understands and anticipates program needs
+ Prepares and ensures availability of program materials
+ Operates organization vehicles/mobile cart(s) to move people and/or supplies
+ Provides operational support for Education Programs
+ Sets up and breaks down tents, supplies and crafts
+ Customer support for program participants (directions on what to do, where to go, restroom supervision for groups of children)
+ Operational details checking in guests and complete assigned tasks
+ Support program Educators by providing assistance as needed
+ Point person as A/V Technician (per appropriate training) for Auditorium events
+ Some overnight shifts
+ Drive Zoo vehicles off grounds
+ Takes direction from Educators, Education Supervisors, and Education Managers
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Education Program Aides will assist Educator Guides during year-round programs and Zoo Summer Camp. Duties include setting-up/taking down/prepping program materials, leading at least one Summer Camp lesson a week (if applicable), group management, keeping kids safe, facilitating the engagement of program participants, and leading groups through the Zoo. Work duties will sometimes take place in close proximity to exotic animals within the Zoo’s collection, however, Program Aides do not handle animals. All Program Aides will assist with general maintenance and will perform other duties as assigned. Shifts may be scheduled at any time during Monday thru Friday for up to 40 hours a week. Applicants must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of supplies and equipment. Program Aides may be required to drive an electric cart on Zoo grounds. Dependability is essential.Please see programming schedule below, which includes training occurring on weekend dates. Education Program Aides are required to wear a cloth face covering for the duration of their shift each day. Selected candidates will participate in eight days (non-consecutive) of paid training and teach summer camp with kids for seven weeks. Applicants must be available to work Monday-Friday from June 8 through August 6. Training Part 1 (9:30am - 5:00pm) Tuesday June 8, Wednesday June 9, Thursday June 10; Training Part 2 (8:00am - 4:30pm) Monday June 14, Tuesday June 15, Wednesday June 16, Thursday June 17, Friday June 18; Programming Dates Week 1: June 21 - June 25, Week 2: June 28 - July 2, Week 3: July 5 - July 9, Week 4: July 12 - July 16, Week 5: July 19 - July 23, Week 6: July 26 - July 30, Week 7: August 2 - August 6; Optional Clean-up Day Tuesday August 10
Experience working with children is required and bilingual candidates are preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age. A valid California driver’s license is required.
