Position Description


The Global Data team in Walmart- ecommerce is seeking a hands-on, self-motivated individual for this opportunity. The DevOps Manager will manage infrastructure and tools used by the data team and people. He/she will be leading a team that will monitor all the jobs that are run at varied frequencies by the data team and ensure that the committed SLAs are met by the processes. He/She will document the process of handing off support jobs along with their committed SLAs the from the engineering teams. The position needs a very good understanding of data replication, data pipelines and data provisioning. This position also demands quicker adoption of newer technologies like Kafka, Spark Streaming, Druid, Presto and providing necessary support needed by the team.

Minimum Qualifications


Manage the schedulers used by the team like Automic, CA7 etc.
Play an SME role; Recommend engineers on how complex development scenarios/integrations can be handled better in Automic/Aorta/OneOps.
Provision Servers/Clusters to the data teams as and when there is a need using Oneops.
Own the SRCR creation process for the data team.
Write complex Teradata and Oracle queries to address business critical requests on the fly
Provide business critical data via dashboards or other channels to the business users.
Work with Database admin team on any maintenance activities related to Golden gate replication or any other database migration activities
Act as an interface between the engineering team and the support team - by understanding the technology deeply at both the server level and at the development level, by understanding where the gaps are between these two, and take proactive steps to fill those gaps to minimalize critical issues
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, providing options, recommendations, and additional actions relating to resolving issues, mitigating risks and resolving escalated items
Ability to dive deep into technical details and conduct thorough proof of concepts for new technologies wherever applicable
Perform continuous risk management assessments to ensure delivery, reliability and scalability of critical applications are met.
Review and analyze systems issues to identify root cause and provide solution options, ability to identify alternatives and make contingency plans
Drive, design and implement housekeeping and maintenance of all systems
Drive product excellency through fully incorporating Operations Requirements
Engage with the Solutions Architects and Development Managers to establish technical direction & approach
Establishes proper guidelines/documents/procedures for the engineering teams to be followed before handing off their jobs to the support team.
Improve provisioning, automation, configuration, integration, deployment and release processes
Deep understanding of databases, Operating System, networking, load balancing and storage processes which directly/indirectly affect day to day delivery
Leads the team that is responsible to monitor critical data pipelines and their SLAs.
Seasoned in drafting SLAs and executing on them.
Demonstrate behaviors which are aligned with the organization’s desired culture and values

Additional Preferred Qualifications


More than 10 years of experience in the data space.
This position demands comfort level in dealing with billions of rows of data.
Hands on experience with databases like Teradata/Oracle/Greenplum/Netezza.
Hands on experience with ETL tools like Informatica, Datastage.
Experience with data replication technologies like Golden Gate.
Hands on experience with development and performing admin tasks in schedulers like Automic.
Hands on experience writing optimized queries on Teradata and understanding Teradata features.
Ability to strategize Teradata workload management to ensure critical, non-critical and adhoc batches are aligned
Hands on experience with building dashboards using business intelligence tools like Tableau, Looker.
Sound knowledge on Cloud computing concepts and hosting different types of applications on the cloud
In depth experience in designing integration methodologies across multiple operating systems with or without a middleware
Ability to adapt to new technologies and support them.
Must be comfortable with Linux/Unix platforms and scripting.
Sound understanding of retail ecommerce business and data entities and their relations.
Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Must be a team player with strong attention to detail and able to work independently
Proven track record at delivering timely and accurate information in a fast-paced environment
Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, mathematical skills and sound judgment.
Project management skills with attention to details.
