We are looking for a Marketing Creative Director who wants to work on a vibrant, popular student brand – Chegg. This role reports to the VP of UX at Chegg.

Chegg offers a Smarter Way To Student – we are the leading student learning website. We make higher education more affordable and more accessible, all while improving student outcomes. Chegg Products Include: Chegg Study, Tutoring, Textbook Rental, Writing Tools, Math Help, Test Prep, Careers Search, Internship Admissions, and College Admissions. Chegg is a publicly-held company based in Santa Clara, CA with offices in San Francisco, New York, Portland, India, Israel, Berlin, and Ukraine.

What would I be responsible for?
You are responsible for creating compelling stories for students to use Chegg’s products. You are responsible for the marketing side of the Chegg Brand – both visuals and tone. This team is responsible for all creative marketing design and copy including the Chegg home page, marketing landing pages, emails used in CRM, display ads, company swag, Pandora spots, etc. This team of course also owns the brand and marketing portions of our combined Brand and Product Design Style Guidelines.

You will manage our growing team of 6 Sr. Designers and 2 Content Writers.

What we are looking for:
We seek a strong Creative Director with your own vision and the ability to inspire and bring thought leadership to the team. It comes down to these 6 elements. If you’ve got these, we want to talk to you:
Management chops. 3+ years’ experience as a Creative Director or Manager of a consumer-facing design team, including a range of junior to senior and lead designers. Able to promote a team dynamic that fosters creative thinking, innovation and risk-taking. A demonstrated history of hiring quality designers and coaching those designers to success. Adept at giving and receiving feedback. Experience managing remote employees is a plus. Highly developed organizational and interpersonal communication skills that typically accompany such a history are also required.
Design chops. 10+ years overall experience in the tech design world, including a variety of domains such as visual design, brand, print, product, desktop, mobile, etc.. Most experience should be in consumer-facing companies (not B2B). Understands latest design trends. Proficiency in design and prototyping applications (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Fireworks, Sketch, Balsamiq, Omnigraffle, Origami, JS Framer, basic front-end code (HTML/CSS3), Xcode or similar tool to create user interfaces. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, Art, HCI, or related field. Examples of innovative work in a portfolio are required
Organizational chops. Leadership, initiative, backbone, gravitas, outgoing personality, ability to advocate – call it what you will. We look for and hire leaders to be Directors, not a follower or a manager for a service organization. You should be able to articulate design reasoning and inspire or persuade a product team. Collaboration, decision making, conflict management, presentation skills, getting organizational alignment – these are all skills we look for.
Agile workplace chops. Experience with lean startup / rapid discovery / intensive user feedback models of design. A healthy blend of creativity and innovation mixed with a data-driven approach to testing assets and approaches. The ability to look at a long list of requests and calmly prioritize and delegate effectively.
