Infection Prevention Specialist - St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health (California)
We are looking for an Infection Prevention Specialist for the Infection Control HH Department at NorCal HealthConnect.
Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly hours
Shift: 8 hour, Days
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the Hospital's infection prevention and control program which includes the surveillance, prevention and control of infection and education of staff concerning infection prevention.
Essential Functions:
+ Plans, develops, implements and evaluates Hospital- wide Infection Control program to reduce the risk of infection for patients, staff and visitors in coordination with the CNO.
+ Maintains current Hospital-wide and department-specific policies concerning the surveillance, prevention, and control of infections.
+ Maintains current Hospital-wide and department-specific policies concerning proper use, handling, storage, use and disposal of biohazardous materials.
+ Collects surveillance data concerning nosocomial infections, trends, and outbreaks.
+ Establishes and maintains Infection Control Committee to include physician advisor and others as determined.
+ Reports Infection Control data to Clinical Functions Committee. Meets at least monthly with the CNO to review infection control issues and plans for resolution.
+ Consults with Infection Control Committee members and analyzes data for reporting to Hospital staff, medical staff, and public health agencies as appropriate. Recommends and implements action plan when problems are identified.
+ Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of principals of infection control, including research and evidence based practice.
+ Develops programs for orientation and continuing education of staff concerning infection control.
+ Ensures compliance with regulatory and Hospital policies and procedures relating to infection control.
+ Ensures compliance with Isolation and Universal Precautions policies.
+ Assists staff as needed in patient/family education regarding infection control.
+ Ensures compliance by staff with Hospital policies and procedures for the referral, transfer or discharge of patients with infectious processes.
+ Advises Work Health regarding infectious disease exposure follow-up. Assists with development of the pet therapy program.
+ Advises Work Health on Hepatitis B vaccine program and annual flu vaccine program.
+ Maintains confidentiality, security, and integrity of data related to infection control and hazardous materials and all patient and/or employee health data.
+ Collaborates with leadership in developing and achieving goals.
+ Participates in the budget development process, and manages program resources within budget. Maintains productivity standards.
+ Models and promote behaviors that help assure customer satisfaction (including patient, family, staff and physicians).
+ Ensures the health, safety, cleanliness and security of the work environment. Ensures that staff are following established safety and infection control policies and procedures.
+ Creates an environment that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission and meet/exceed its goals.
+ Works with unit managers to assure infection data is included on the patient assessment and care planning process.
+ May provide direct education to patients and family relation to infection control.
+ Completes all required reports/documentation in a timely manner.
+ Performs other duties as assigned to support the department’s objectives.
Skills:
+ Knowledgeable in the principles of Adult Education.
+ Strong interpersonal skills.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills including customer service skills.
+ Expertise in using all Microsoft Office products including Excel.
+ A team player, adaptive and collaborative while working across the organization.
+ Demonstrates good judgment and discretion regarding confidentiality of sensitive issues.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
**Education** : Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
**Experience** :
+ 2 years of Clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting.
+ 6 months of experience in infection control or participation in a basic training course for infection control within 6 months of hire.
Licenses/Certifications:
+ Current California Registered Nursing license.
+ Current BLS.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
**Education** : Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
**Experience** : Critical care experience and/or long term care experience.
**License/Certification:** Certification in Infection Control.
