Senior Manager - Security Research Engineering (Xpanse) - Palo Alto Networks (California)
Our Mission
At Palo Alto Networks® everything starts and ends with our mission:
Being the cybersecurity partner of choice, protecting our digital way of life.
We have the vision of a world where each day is safer and more secure than the one before. These aren’t easy goals to accomplish – but we’re not here for easy. We’re here for better. We are a company built on the foundation of challenging and disrupting the way things are done, and we’re looking for innovators who are as committed to shaping the future of cybersecurity as we are.
Your Career
We’re looking for a Senior Security Research Engineering Manager to hire and lead Cortex Xpanse’s policy and payload generation team.
Xpanse's mission is to find risks online and protect the world’s largest organizations from malicious software and hackers. Our Internet intelligence platform collects petabytes of Internet data, leverages artificial intelligence to discover “unknown unknown” risks for customers, and delivers those insights via a SaaS web application.
In this role, you will build, scale, and manage a team responsible for the creation of payloads, which will be used by our internet scanning infrastructure to understand what services are exposed across the global Internet. Your team will also be responsible for creating new policies, which encode risky device configurations as code that is run over observations from our global scanning data. We expect the team to both proactively source policies and payloads to create from newly discovered CVEs and to respond to Xpanse customer requests.
Your Impact
+ Hire a team of security research engineers that can help Xpanse identify and structure more and more types of services running on the global Internet.
+ Own the Xpanse zero day response playbook. Your team is responsible both for implementing the necessary payloads and policies to detect the CVE and for communicating with the Xpanse team, across the Cortex business unit, and across Palo Alto Networks.
+ Prioritize across the backlog of customer-requested policies and payloads.
+ Proactively add topical policies and payloads to your team’s backlog.
+ Stay apprised of critical business needs and help us continue to scale; balance resources and projects accordingly.
Your Experience
+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or other technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
+ Experience managing teams of security researchers or similar technical skills, providing them with thoughtful feedback and with the resources they need to be successful
+ Ability to concisely communicate complex subject matter to technical and non-technical audiences
+ High-level understanding of computer networks and of how the Internet works
+ Ability to (nicely) persuade and influence others; ability to collaborate with technical and cross-functional teams who may not report into you to get things done
+ Comfort with ambiguity and making decisions with imperfect information
Our Commitment
We’re trailblazers that dream big, take risks, and challenge cybersecurity’s status quo. It’s simple: we can’t accomplish our mission without diverse teams innovating, together.
