The Solis Group is seeking an individual with experience as a Cost Estimator for a major rail project in the Greater Los Angeles, CA area. This individual will have experience as a cost estimator in the civil construction industry. Previous rail experience is required, and CM/GC experience is strongly preferred.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Performs accurate, thorough and timely quantity takeoffs for all levels of project documents (schematic, design development and, construction documents).
• Develops accurate and concise clarifications and assumptions with the project management team’s assistance.
• Obtains clarification on plans and specifications from architects and engineers when
necessary.
• May assist the project management team in soliciting and analyzing subcontractor and vendor pricing input when required.
• Attends project site pre-bid meetings, site tours, and post-bid interviews as required.
• Develops unit costs accurately.
• Develops and analyzes value management analysis options.
• Performs technical/plan review when required.
• Develops knowledge in building designs, systems and construction materials through available resources and uses this knowledge in guiding the owner to a viable project.
• Accurately assesses and plans takeoff workload.
• Ensures all data placed in the historical database is accurate.
• May assist in purchasing or buyout duties.
• Participates in value engineering review of documents during workshops with owner.
• Prepares and presents budget presentations to owners and architects.
• Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND BACKGROUND
+ Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar.
+ Experience as a cost estimator in the civil construction industry with focus on rail projects.
+ CM/GC, Negotiated, Lump Sum, and hard bid experience
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks and estimate multiple projects, excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation skills;
+ Proficiency in MS Office suite.
+ a valid driver’s license and daily access to a car

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Individuals may need to reach above shoulder heights, below the waist or lift up to 25 pounds as required to file documents or store materials and/or office supplies. Proper lifting techniques required.
