Supervisor, Pastoral Care Education - St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health (California)
We are looking for a Supervisor of Pastoral Care Education at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange.
Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly hours
Shift: 8 hour, Days
Job Summary:
The Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor is certified as an ACPE Supervisor or Associate Supervisor and conducts programs of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) for assigned facilities in the PH&S, California Center for CPE, according to Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Standards. The CPE Supervisor reports to the Regional Director, Clinical Pastoral Education, Providence Health & Services, California Region and works cooperatively with PH&S ministries and their Spiritual Care Department Managers to coordinate CPE students' placements and ministries. While the CPE Regional Director has final responsibility for the CPE center's compliance with ACPE Standards and accreditation requirements, each CPE supervisor is expected to be aware of these and to personally comply with these professional expectations.
Essential Functions:
+ Conducts CPE units at assigned facilities according to ACPE standards:
+ Respects and protects students’ rights to have high quality education and excellent supervision.
+ Conducts timely admissions interviews, communicates admission decisions, and handles application materials in a timely and professional manner.
+ Designs curriculum for student-centered learning, for both CPE Levels 1 & 2, and Supervisory CPE.
+ Assigns, reviews, and comments on students’ written materials in a timely manner.
+ Makes routine visits to students’ ministry sites to assure optimal communication with Spiritual Care Department staff who provide direct oversight of students’ ministry and to directly observe this ministry and provide feedback when possible.
+ Evaluates students’ personal and professional functioning; writes student evaluations in accordance with ACPE Standards.
+ Collaborates with the spiritual care managers and CPE supervisors throughout PH&S, Southern California Region to improve the delivery of spiritual care.
+ Participates in the facilities’ plans for continuous quality improvement.
+ Communicates effectively with CPE supervisors and spiritual care managers about the activities of students ministering in the various institutions.
+ Supports an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care by serving on committees as appointed and promoting an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care among CPE supervisors and students.
+ Maintains and promotes PH&S, Southern California Region’s Mission Division and Spiritual Care Department policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement plans, and patient/customer safety standards.
+ Contributes to the wider community through activities such as publication, teaching, research, and leadership in professional organizations.
+ May author or co-author materials relevant to spiritual care and pastoral education.
+ Participates in teaching/lecturing on a periodic basis as invited.
+ Attends regional and national ACPE meetings and conferences as able.
+ Serves on ACPE Pacific Region and ACPE national committees as invited/elected.
+ Participates in programs and administrative activities of PH&S’s Southern California Region and at the system level where appropriate, for example, Mission and Spiritual Care Meetings and Retreats as invited.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
**Education** :
+ Master's Degree - Divinity or Theology Master’s degree as defined by ACPE. (Any ACPE supervisor will already have demonstrated this through the ACPE
+ certification process.)
+ ACPE Supervisory Education completed
**Experience** : Chaplaincy experience, 2 years preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
+ Certification as an ACPE Supervisor (preferred) or ACPE Associate Supervisor.
+ Ordination or commissioning for ministry by a recognized religious group and endorsement for chaplaincy by that group.
+ Maintains membership and good standing with ACPE, and completes annual continuing education and other requirements for continued certification.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
**Experience** : 2 years of Independent supervision of CPE units.
