INTRODUCTION:
The positions in the Public Service Aide series are designed to offer various types of trainee or entry level opportunities in a variety of settings. These positions provide an introduction to career options and role models while allowing incumbents to learn about the work environment.
The Adult Probation Department is committed to providing qualified candidates with valuable work experience in Probation Services. This assignment provides comprehensive exposure to probation services and supervision and can be extremely beneficial in preparing for a career in Probation and Parole for public government and corrections entities.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under minimum supervision, the Probation Aide will assist the Adult Probation Department's Learning Center staff with the functioning of the program at all levels. The Probation Aide duties include; however, are not limited to the following: support program staff; escort probationers to designated areas within the department; maintain attendance, progress, and other reports related to student performance; identify and order supplies; liaison between Deputy Probation Officer, Sheriff's Department and District Attorney's Office; prepare center for daily routine operations; support students in learning process; and outreach with outside agencies and programs in order to collect program materials and information about support services.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Adult Probation Department is located at the Hall of Justice, 880 Bryant Street, Room 200. Work hours will be scheduled as needed, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have completed one year (equivalent to 30 semester units or 45 quarter units) of education towards a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Education, the Social and Behavioral Sciences, Criminal Justice, or closely related field.
NOTE: Background clearance required: Prior to employment with the Adult Probation Department, criminal records will be carefully reviewed; candidates who do not report their complete criminal records on their applications will be disqualified. If selected, candidate must clear Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprinting, in order to determine eligibility for criminal history clearance.
