Responsibilities

Position Summary:

 

The person in this position is responsible for leading product development DFMA, component and assembly process verification activities. Specifies and qualifies assembly tooling, fixturing, and equipment.  Has overall responsibility for all product development activities related to development, manufacture and transition of new products to manufacturing operations.

 

Responsibilities: Essential Duties

Responsible for optimizing Design for Manufacturing and Assembly of new products. Conducts component process validations. Conducts product assembly process validations. Specifies and qualifies assembly tooling, fixturing, and equipment. Develops and implements component inspection and gauging methods. Develops assembly process layout. Has primary responsibility for project schedule. Establishes and maintains development engineering aspects of project budget. Assists design engineers with selection and design of plastic and metallic materials. Assumes project leadership of development team during design and manufacturing verification stages of product development process. Serves as independent design reviewer for other projects. Must comply with applicable ISO and FDA regulations as stated in Quality Manual Must embody the Company’s Vision, Mission and Values Other duties may be assigned

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect date, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.   

Qualifications

Expertise: Qualifications - Experience/Training/Education/Etc

 

Required:

Knowledge in DFMA, FMEA, QFD, DOE, applied statistics and analytical problem solving. Knowledge of component manufacturing processes for injection molding, decorating, assembly and finishing processes of plastics. Knowledge of metallic processing including stamping, machining, and finishing processes. Project management of new product development projects. Knowledge of GD&T, Ergonomics, and Safety desirable. Experience in cross-functional teams desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of and compliance with applicable Quality System requirements. Knowledge of ISO9000, GD&T and cGMP preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related technical degree, and twelve or more (12+) years’ of experience, preferably in a medical product development (R&D) environment, or M.S. degree and a minimum of ten (10) years’ of experience. Strong preference for mechanical surgical device product development experience.

Desired:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
