A trusted community hospital in Southern Oregon is actively interviewing for a Senior Inpatient Coder to join its HIM and Revenue Cycle team.
This is a great opportunity for a Medical Records Coder with a couple years of experience in an acute care environment to take first steps toward a leadership role. This background will you give you the edge in leading process around data entry and maintenance of an electronic database used to house health system data. You’ll apply a working knowledge of compliance standards, and support departmental processes around data quality assurance, financial performance measurement, patient care metrics, and treatment outcome analysis.
The Senior Medical Records Coder, reporting to the Director of Health Information Management (HIM) for this acute care hospital, will assume a mission critical role in the day-to-day and strategic operations of the HIM Department and of the hospital. In collaboration with other coding staff and CDI personnel, you’ll review records to ensure compliance with with hospital procedures, diagnosis, and codes using EPIC electronic health records system. You’ll also serve as a front-line change agent, working with clinicians to improve communication and documentation.
A great candidate for the HIM Senior Medical Records Coder will have a background in medical coding for acute care services. With this focus on inpatient coding, comes general metric improvement experience in coding accuracy, DNFB impact, Impact on A/R days, and total productivity. This background is usually exemplified by holding a certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), such as RHIT, RHIA, or as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Beyond the applicable certifications, a strong Senior Coder may have experience with assigning CPT and ICD codes.
